First - this picture cracks me up! This is how we entertain our child - we let the dust buster blow her hair around. Don't judge us. She loves it and thinks it's the funniest thing ever.
Secondly - today I was leaving Kroger and a man jumped out of his vehicle a few cars down and started walking towards me. He was dressed in a suit and kept saying, "Excuse me, miss". I felt myself going into defensive-mom mode, ready to beat him down if he got close to Sofia (and all those stupid safety emails started flashing through my mind - you know, the ones where you get warned about strangers asking you to smell their new perfume and instead they use it to drug you and haul you off in one of those vans with no windows...). He came all the way up to my SUV and hands me a Bible tract and says he'd like me to read this pamphlet about scripture reading. He was a Jehovah's Witness!! After he handed it to me, he turned right back around and got back in his car. I don't know if I should be impressed with his ministry tactic of stalking people in parking lots or if I should turn him in to the local congregation for being the 'lazy member' who won't walk the neighborhoods anymore. I thought that was their gig - pounding the pavement, riding bikes. The last time I had a run-in with one of them was here at the house. A car load of them came over and poured out of that tiny Accord like a bunch of Mexicans! (Hey, I can make Mexican jokes because I married one. Back off!) I had to beat them away with a stick...in the most Christian way I could. Anyway, it was the craziest thing I've seen in a long time - so shoppers beware. Who knows what parking lot he'll strike next!
Third - there are five little kittens who have taken up residence in our backyard. I saw the mother several days ago, so I hope she isn't "gone", if you know what I mean. Most of you know that Armando and I are both ANTI-cat people (we're both allergic and they just creep me out. I had a bad 'cat experience' when I was younger and I've disliked them ever since. That's another post for another time.) Anyhoo - I do feel sorry for the little things and they are very cute. Our cat-loving friends came over this afternoon and put out some dry food just in case the little babies are starving. I realize this increases the odds of them NEVER leaving, but we couldn't just leave them to fend for themselves. They keep running off when we come around, but if anyone wants to come over and chase down a little kitty - it's yours!
Lastly - one of my best friends (since the 3rd grade) is a missionary in Costa Rica. She emailed me last week saying the rural area she lives in was hit by a tropical storm and because they are so remote, there was no advance warning. They put the nursing home victims on floor mats in their church and are trying to help those who lost homes (I use that term loosely). I've added her website to my Site List on this page. If you are interested in making a donation to them, please do so. It would be greatly appreciated. If nothing else, please keep Libby and her group, Ecclesia, in your prayers.
