the dollhouse

My favorite Christmas present EVER was the dollhouse my Dad got for me ...I think it was around 1985. I learned later that the dollhouse kit my Dad picked up at the store was missing some pieces, so on Christmas Eve he was fighting the store for their display model because the kits were sold out. He finally won the battle and hurried home so he and my Mom could get it painted and ready for Christmas the next morning. It has 'M' on the chimney (for Mays) and our house number on the rail...2936 Briarcliff Trail. (That was my home address growing up.) My Mom and I spent hours decorating the house...complete with wallpaper & borders, linoleum on the kitchen floor, lace curtains and many more details. I loved that dollhouse. When I left home, it was one of the things I took with me and even though it's lived in a closet for many, many years it's still with me and in really good condition considering it's over 20 years old.

I planned on giving the dollhouse to Sofia in a couple more years, but I caved in a little early. I got it out of the closet on Monday just to see what she would do...she loved it!! She was surprisingly gentle with the house and the few remaining pieces of furniture. It was quite surreal watching her, but I'm SO glad I saved the house and hauled it around all these years.

Thanks again, Dad (and Mom), for my favorite gift EVER!

It's so sweet that you have kept your dollhouse (and the memories) to pass on to Sofia. Watching your own baby play with something you loved yourself is a feeling (besides a toy) that you can't buy at the store.
